Summer at last?

The predictions for a wet spring were accurate.  While the rain can be tiresome, it will help keep everything greener longer, help those of us on wells survive the dry summer and gives us some additional guilt free sewing time.  Summer (such as it is on the coast) shall be with us before we know it and we’ll get our chance to spend some time outside in the garden instead of in the sewing room.

We had 54 beautiful Quilt Run 101 challenges turned in this year.  It was very difficult to narrow down the selections and pick a final winner.  Congratulations to Mary Patterson of Williams, Oregon.  Her delightful quilt using each shop’s fat quarter as the building fabric for each shop was adorable and finally won our hearts.  All of the quilts will be available for viewing on the Quilt  Run 101 website in the near future so that you can be amazed at how 14 very different fabrics can still come together into one quilt cohesively.  Each year when I see the entries, I’m always amazed.  I’m not sure I would be up to the challenge myself, so kudos to all of you who participated.

We are just back from International Quilt Market which was held in Minneapolis this year.  As always, we enjoyed ourselves more than we probably should have and we look forward to seeing the delight on everyone’s faces as they view the new products and ideas that we brought back with us.  We’ve picked up several new items which will be great for purses, totes, or other general sewing projects.  We will have 14” zippers in 36 different colors, colorful snaps in different colors & types, jumbo rick-rack, and multi-purpose cloth.  We found several fun new patterns including cloth floor mats, dog leashes and a raincoat.  Be sure to stop in the shop over the next several weeks to see all the fun stuff we found.  And later this summer, new colors of Bali Pops will also be coming in.  We are already planning to host several classes next fall in several of these new fun patterns we found.

Don’t forget that entries for our Color Challenge 2010 will be due August 6th.  There is still time to pull your cards if you want to participate in this year’s challenge.  Each participant will receive one yard of complementary fabric for turning in their entries on time (to be picked up when they pick up their quilt).  All entries will be displayed from August 11th through September 12th.  We will draw the names of three winners for a $25, $20 or $15 gift certificate.  Last year’s participants turned in a stunning display of quilts which we were proud to display.  Even if you don’t participate in the color challenge yourself, please try to come in and see the quality work that we get each year.

This year is a quieter quilt show year, but there will several quilt shows over the summer you won’t want to miss.  We will be vending at the Newport Quilt Show, August 6th & 7th at their recreational center.  This will be their second year at this location which proved to be very delightful last year.  Then we will be off to Crescent City for their annual Lighthouse Quilt Guild Show August 21st & 22nd at the Del Norte Fairgrounds.  We always enjoy the skill of all the quilters at each of these shows.  For other quilt shows that are happening in our state, please feel free to peruse our flyer bulletin board at the shop.

We will be offering a few classes this summer, so check out our class schedule, including a couple of classes for children.

We will be going to summer hours on June 14th and will continue until October 1st (or thereabouts).  We will be open Monday through Saturday 9 am to 6 pm and on Sundays from 10 am - 5 pm.  We will be open on July 4th from 10 am to 3 pm.

We hope you have delightful summer and we hope to see you soon!
